Signs and Omens – Part 1

What does a sneeze mean to you? Or an involuntary twitching of your eyebrow? To many, it may be a trivial, everyday occurrence but in the study of omens, it can carry many messages. When I was very young, I remember hearing of many omens and signs from those elderly people……like if your ear is itchy, someone is talking about you, etc..? In all cultures, even dreams can be interpreted to mean something important! :D

I have been collecting many articles over the years on this subject, more out of interest than belief, and I will write a bit on them here. The signs can be auspicious or inauspicious, but for the sake of interest, I will only mention the auspicious ones here! LOL! The following are according to an ancient Indian Fengshui, Vasthu Sastra :-

Dreams

* a hostile relationship with a friend indicates making new friends

* travelling overseas means prosperity

* two snakes fighting signals success

* catching a snake means success over enemies

* dancing in a dream indicates success

* death of a friend or a relative foretells auspicious news

* death of a wife is auspicious as it indicates birth of a child

* death of own self indicates success

* a coffin indicates unexpected pleasures

* obstacles indicate enhancement in work and business

* drizzles mean happiness

* an elephant means improvement in career or business

* fire means success

* house being destroyed in a fire means gaining of wealth

* jewellery and valuables mean unexpected wealth

* falling teeth means long life and better health

* murder means troubles averted

* failure in love means success

Twitching & Itchiness

* if a man’s right eye twitches, or if a woman’s left eye does so, before undertaking a task, it indicates success. If a woman’s right eyes twitches, it indicates worries

* twitching of the right side of the neck means happiness and prosperity

* twitching in the left shoulder indicates success

* an itchy head indicates favourable luck

* an itchy chin is prosperity

* an itchy right palm indicates unexpected monetary gain

* an itchy right foot indicates a successful overseas trip

Other signs

* if it drizzles at the start of a journey, it is auspicious

* a lizard falling onto the head, right arm, thighs or waist means gaining wealth somehow

* a lizard falling anywhere onto the left side of a woman or the right side of a man is auspicious

* a lizard falling onto the chest indicates that the property owner will gain wealth and more property

* it is auspicious if a black or grey cat visits a house

* if a cat litters in a house, it is auspicious as it bestows peace, prosperity and good health on the property

* for a cat to follow a property owner when he or she leaves, this means some financial gains

    Wow, big sis, that is really spooky indeed. Hmmm…for the past few months, I have been dreaming very frequently of travelling overseas….hehe, I am hoping that I am on the road to prosperity!! :lol: :roll: :roll:

    But the one on the woman’s right eye twitching to indicate worries is quite true for me – often when that happens, I was very stressed over some issues. Good thing was they happened a few years ago! :D

    Many hugs,

    Good morning from KL, dearest Rose! :D

    Wow, that is really good observation on your part there. I have noticed my both palms itching now and then but either way, no monetary gain came out of them! :roll: :roll: Perhaps I was merely suffering from dry skin due to too much washing and not enough hand creams!! :lol: :lol: :lol:

    Many te pups and much love,

    Hello there and welcome, vEn :D

    Beliefs in signs and omens are just that – beliefs or superstitions, and we don’t have to follow them. These came about many years ago, even thousands of years as seen in the Indian (Vasthu Sastra) and Chinese cultures, and there are also similar beliefs in the Western Civilisation. These beliefs are handed down through the generations and we usually learn this through the older generation, i.e. the elders in the family.

    Hope this helps…you can Google for more information or look into some of these books in the libraries or book stores. :wink:

    Hi there and welcome, dear Dianne :D

    I’m sorry I don’t know what that meant. I have not heard about any beliefs tied to this type of incidents.

    Do have a blessed weekend ahead!

      Hi there and welcome, dear apple :D

      These are just beliefs passed down from generations. I don’t know if they are true but I feel that these beliefs are interesting. They need not be taken as gospel truth.

      Hi there and welcome, dear Allie :D

      Usually, when something like that happens to me, I try not to be overly superstitious about it. Just brush the incident off and think positive. In the energy world, same energies attract…so, when we think positive things, then positive events happen. Our mind is a very powerful tool! :wink:

      Don’t worry…

      Hi there and welcome, dear Jagan :D

      I’m not sure what your lizard sign means :oops: but my usual advice is not to worry too much over these things. If your mind stays strong and positive most of the time, the good energies generated will attract good things to come to you. :wink:
