Dear friends,
In Chinese Feng Shui (FS) – pronounced “Fung Shway” – the kitchen is very importantly associated with our prosperity (wealth) and health. Because the kitchen is also considered as the “heart of the home”, any problems in this area will result in a significant impact on our family – health wise or money wise.
Of course, first and foremost, good housekeeping is good feng shui. When our kitchen is clean, shiny and free from clutter, then it allows the best of positive energy to come into it. Conversely, if we have too much clutter and dirty things or we hardly declutter our kitchens, then this leads to a buildup of stagnant, stale and negative chi in our kitchen.
Now, we don’t want this to happen because negative energies will impact negatively also on aspects of our life, like our money, career, prosperity. Logically, this does make some sense because when our kitchen is cluttered and not clean, then it hampers our efforts to cook a really good and nourishing meal for our loved ones. In fact, I don’t think we would like to do anything or stay any longer in the kitchen if it is unclean and messy!
But when we can’t cook nourishing meals at home and we eat out most of the time, then our body is likely to be under nourished, thus leading to a less than optimal health and hence, lesser efficient ability to work well in our job.
We are taught the 10 Don’ts in Kitchen Feng Shui by Retired Feng Shui Master, Master atan at his Dhealing Forum as follows -
1. Do not place your kitchen under or next to a bathroom. A bathroom is deemed as a place where we wash away our dirt and where the toilet is located, and therefore, having a kitchen under this is deemed very inauspicious.
2. Do not place your stove under a big beam. A beam is considered a heavy support and if your stove is under it, it is like the energies of your stove are being oppressed by this beam. Not good to cook in such a situation. Why? Because the stove is symbolic of wealth and in such a negative placement of stove, it means your wealth is being suppressed. You can’t prosper.
3. Do not face your stove to water basin or refrigerator, this can lead to arguments and conflict within the family. Fire and water are opposites of and fight each other, and so the placements of the sink and stove are important. If they are directly opposite each other, then this may lead to arguments, conflicts and figthing among family members. Conflicts and tension at home means negative energies. A stove and sink side by side also means a weakening of the energy of the kitchen.
4. Do not clutter your kitchen – stagnant and dirty chi is no good for food. Clean out your food cupboards, pantry and refrigerator regularly.
5. Do not place stove near windows and skylights – the chi can flow out of the house through them.
6. Do not design the kitchen door be in a direct line with the back door or front door of the house. That placement allows the chi to flow from the kitchen all the way outside. If your doors are placed in line, keep the kitchen door closed, or use plants to block the flow.
7. Do not delay in maintaining the stove. A stove that is not in good working order implies a problem with financial resources. If any part of the stove (burners, oven light, fan, etc.) does not work, get it fixed as soon as possible.
8. Do not leave you stove unused – an unused stove implies untapped resources or ignored opportunities. Even if all you do is boil water for tea, rotate which burner you set the kettle on so that all of them get regular use! And use the oven, too, from time to time, instead of always relying on the microwave.
9. Do not place your kitchen in the North West sector of your house, because it will bring negative elements to your family. The NW sector of your house represents where Heaven’s energy flows into your house, and by having a kitchen there, it means that fire will destroy this good energy. A term for this kitchen location is “Fire At Heaven’s Gate.” The family breadwinner could lose his job, lose his wealth, or worse, lose his health. If your kitchen is already in this sector, try to move the cooking elements like the stove or oven away from this sector.
10. Do not use any odd shaped objects in the pots or frying pan at any time. They may seem like piercing weapons of some sort. I will discuss some of the remedies that can be carried out if the above Kitchen Feng Shui rules are broken later…..
Meanwhile, for those of you looking for a new home to buy or rent and you believe a little in FS
, I hope these Kitchen FS tips will help you to avoid getting an “inauspicious” kitchen. There are also many other “Do’s & Don’ts” for other aspects of a home but we start with this post for now.
May your life be blessed with good wealth, good health and many successes!

That is an absolutely beautiful kitchen!
You have inspired me to go and de-clutter my own, I know exactly what you are saying. A clean and organised kitchen does really affect the energy in the house for the better.
Thank you.

Hi there, sweetrosie!
Errr…..I am embarassed to say that is not my kitchen!
I had taken the picture off a brochure!
Yes, it is of utmost importance to keep our kitchens clean and uncluttered; other than for aesthetic reasons and our peace of mind; in feng shui, doing this will bring us lots of auspicious and wealth chi/energy…. someone wise even told me that “This is where the money is.”
I talked about decluttering our kitchens earlier in this post -

Hi! Could you help me how to give any preventions? My husband and I Bought a Condo unit. According to your article about kitchen feng shui, “1. Do not place your kitchen under or next to a bathroom. A bathroom is deemed as a place where we wash away our dirt and where the toilet is located, and therefore, having a kitchen under this is deemed very inauspicious.” When we bought the unit, its already fix, the kitchen and bathroom are back to back..from front door you will see immediately the kitchen, on back of kitchen will be the t&b room. It’s already fix. We cannot move it. Do you have any solutions or any charms we can put?Our unit is just 30 square meters thats why its really maximized. please help me.ill do appreciate your answer.More power and thanks!

Hello there and welcome, dear Christine
Congratulations to you and Jeff on being newlyweds!
Don’t worry, most of the time, the ready-built property that we bought are not perfect in terms of Feng Shui and there are bound to be some “problem areas” but these can be cured with some appropriate FS placements.
To prevent the good chi that comes into your home from heading straight to the kitchen, you can place a piece of furniture or a potted plant between the doorway and the kitchen.
Secondly, you can place a small 2-inch tall cactus plant in your bathroom but you have to request for it to be “activated” to make it safe to use at this forum here -

Yes, this year both the Misfortune Star # 5 and 3 Killings are located in the South. However, you can find some useful free information on fengshui cures at this site (you have to register there to see the full information) -
http://dhealingforum.com/index.php?sid=b31237445987ce783af1374d823ba33c
Usually, we can’t really do much with relocating our kitchens and the best way would be to put cures in place to counter the bad stars.
Have a great weekend!

This was my parent’s home. It was very unlucky for them and is proving so for us. Please, help.
My kitchen is in the northwest section of my home. I have just remodeled and simply cannot move the stove. The kitchen is an L shape with the stove and frig are on the north side and the sink facing west; my back is turned to the front door which faces east. The kitchen has an arch above the sink area with a column on each side. This faces the family room which is directly west, opposite to the front door. There are two sets of french doors leading to the back yard. I have a bookcase on each corner, the south west corner and on both sides on the northwest corners of this, the family room.
My front door faces east and when you walk in (now facing west,) the living room is on the north, right side. In front is the island first and then the sink with a granite top. Again, the sink faces west. There is a bathroom on the south side of the house directly across from the refrigerator. I can not change that. Should I install a pot rack above the sink to block the west exposure?
Please, help me. We are having bad financial problems.
Thank you

Hello there and welcome, dear Happy
It is not good if the kitchen is located in the NorthWest sector of a home…not NorthEast. A NW kitchen problem can be solved by placing a set of Master atan’s Trinity 3coins – no need to rebuild the kitchen.

Hello. yeah I was just gonna ask that there is absolutely no problems with having the kitchen northeast, right? Do i have to put the Master atan’s trinity 3coins? And one more question, My kitchen has a bathroom on the upper level and the lower level, is this any problem? And another question. My kitchen is on the northeast side and it has granite and wood cabinets, they are heavy material, is this also a problem? And one last question, how can we attract wealth in our kitchen/home because we are facing some financial problems. Can u give some solutions and thank you so much.

Hi there, dear Happy
Yes, a kitchen in the NE is not a problem. The solution for having a bathroom or toilet over the kitchen or refrigerators is to place a Salt & Coin Cure (SCC) as per Master atan’s technique. Do go to his forum as per the link I gave you earlier.. There is also a lot of information there on how to make your own FS items to attract wealth. Many members have benefitted from following his methods there.

One way would be to place a pot of plant between the sink and the stove but most kitchens would not have that kind of available space.
I follow Master atan’s Feng Shui techniques to counter this problem. You can place a Piyao or a set of Trinity 3coins in the kitchen. They are very good for countering NW Kitchens or “Kitchen at Hell’s Gate or Fire Gate.”

Hi there, dear Wong
At the moment, do you have a lot of arguments in your household? If not, then there is no need to remedy that situation. However, if you feel better doing something about it (because our state of mind should be positive), then you can do the following :-
1) Register at Master atan’s Dhealing Forum … there is free Feng Shui advice and free activations of DIY Feng Shui items. The information are there
2) list your family for Tai Sui Prayers there
3) if can, buy a Piyao and place it in your kitchen, and then ask for Piyao activation at the forum.
You can post your questions at the forum, too, for advice there.

Hi there, dear nalini
The most problematic kitchen is on in the NorthWest sector of a home. Yours is in the SouthWest, so it should be okay. But if you feel that you need to remedy your home, Master atan’s Salt & Coin Cure (SCC) is easy to implement. Do visit his forum for more information or you can post your questions there for free advice there.
In my kitchen, the stove is directly opposite my twin sinks, and my refrigerators are below the toilet upstairs – I have placed the SCCs in my kitchen to cure those situations.

Regarding your kitchen, is it located in the NorthWest sector of your home, or is the kitchen door facing NorthWest? It is the sector that is important, not the facing. However, if your kitchen is indeed located in the NorthWest sector of your home, you can follow Master atan’s easy Feng Shui techniques here
