Whooo….hoooo! This evening, I finally received my new kitchen toy – an electronic rice cooker! I am absolutely tickled by its features because I have been using a rather simple, straightforward 20 years’ old National brand electric rice cooker that just has an “On/Off” switch, but it has served me very well as it has never broke down at all. However, due to my growing family’s appetites (my children!), I needed a larger capacity rice cooker. So, at last yearend, when there were some points in our credit card to be redeemed for gifts, I had chosen this high-tech rice cooker and it took 3 weeks to be delivered to me.
Call me behind times or something, but I had no idea that rice cookers can do so much nowadays. The new one I got now can even bake cakes and my daughter already made me promised to bake a cake in our brand new rice cooker tomorrow. So, this rice cooker’s first function my home since its manufacturing was not to cook rice, but to bake a cake!
Cake recipes for the rice cooker
The other functions are -
1) cook white rice
2) express cooking of white rice (I have to look into this as I am not sure how this would work)
3) cook rice porridge
4) it can cook slowly i.e. as a crockpot, up to 12 hours
5) steam food
I can’t wait til tomorrow to test my new toy out! I will let you know how my cake turns out……Good night!

How very special and wonderful – well done! I have never seen a rice cooker like this one.
I don’t use my basic type rice-cooker so often. To tell you the truth, I was never 100% happy with the results, and it is so big for 3 people anyway…
choesf, you are going to have so much fun trying this out – I love new appliances
Please let us know about the new things you try in it.
So the cake is a steamed type cake?
Have a wonderful day dear choesf!

Wow !
Congrats on your new ” acquisition” ! I’ve never saw a rice cooker at all… I cook the rice in regular pot; it’s only me to eat rice in this house.
Does it mean that you will steam the Christmas pudding in there? If you have steamed cake recipes which can be cooked other than in the rice cooker, please….: wink:
Love always for you xx

Hi there, my dearest Rose and sweetrosie!
I like my new electronic rice cooker very much and will testing it out today! It can bake a cake, and steam one, too! I just pour the cake batter into the removable non-stick inner pot and the heat will bake the cake. If I want to steam a cake, it has a steamer rack that I can put the cake pan into and I just add water to the bottom of the pot to steam the cake, or any other dishes.
Yes, here are some steamed cake recipes that I like very much -
1) Steamed Cake – Malay Style

2) Steamed Cake – Chinese Style

Have a nice week ahead!
With love and hugs,

Hi there and welcome, dear Sally
This rice cooker is a Panasonic brand and has many functions, including the porridge function. I am sure most electrical appliances stores will have this rice cooker. Just ask the sales assistant for a rice cooket that can bake cakes.
Happy Shopping!
With peace and harmony,
choesf
