Sardine Puffs and Frosted Lemon Poppy Seed Cake
Cinnamon Raisin Chocolate Bread
Good Day, dear friends! 😀
Ah, I have certainly missed posting here – I have been either busy decluttering to get my children’s study room ready in time for the new school year, busy taking my kids to the shopping malls to buy their stuff, and in between those busy periods, I was feeling under the weather. So, I didn’t cook much until yesterday, and we pretty much survived on take outs. 🙄
For the past few days, although I went to bed tired, I didn’t have much good sleep as my sleep was full of active dreams and I would wake up the morning after feeling even more tired despite a good 8-hour’s sleep.
Yesterday, I decided to make a soup which was recommended by my healer lady for “restless sleep” problems and I also used a Feng Shui cure for insomnia/restless sleep (I will post both remedies shortly)………so, last night I had such a good sleep that I woke up this morning feeling like my old self again and wow, was I happy to have my energy back! Suddenly, I was in a baking mood today and I was nutty enough to bake 3 things altogether (well, I am not very good at baking and therefore, I hardly baked at all) ! 🙄 🙄
First, I measured the ingredients for baking a Cinnamon Raisin Chocolate Bread into my Bread Making Machine (which has been gathering dust in my kitchen cupboards for a year now! 😆 ) and turned it on. While it was kneading the dough and doing the rest of the sutff on its own (I thank the person for inventing the Bread Making Machine!), I went on to make a Frosted Lemon Poppy Seed Cake.
This was the first time that I baked this cake and it has a rather interesting recipe (which I had found from a book called “The Best of Baking”) whereby a sugar and brandy syrup is poured over the cooked cake, and then a lemon-icing-sugar frosting is poured onto the top of the cake…… it was fun to see the frosting flowing down on its own to the sides of the cake…easy frosting indeed! 😆
With the cake baking in the oven, I proceeded to make some Sardine Puffs, using some frozen Puff Pastry that my friend gave me earlier. Hehe, I dared not take a close-up photo of my Sardine Puffs to show you because they turned out so ugly….a confirmation of my not so good baking/pastry skills! 😆 But the sardine filling was very tasty and I remember that Sardine Puffs or Rolls used to be popular when I was a kid, back in those days when bakeries only sold basic goods like breads, cakes, curry puffs and sardine puffs, none of those fancy looking buns and pastries that we get these days!
So, we had all these three treats for tea just now and my husband and children were so happy that I baked so many things for them….well, I guess I was making up for the last few days when I didn’t cook for them! 😆
I will post the recipes for all these soon…………..now, I have to go cook dinner – tonight, we are having Pork Chops with Scalloped Potatoes, Grilled Whole Tomatoes, and Buttered Chinese Long Cabbage. 😉
Talk to you later….. 😀
P.S. I thought I would post this picture of my kitty with her slice of cake! 😆
No, she was not going to eat the cake……..she was waiting for the Sardine Puffs! After we “posed” her with the cake, I gave her a little dish of sardines! 😆
