Our Blood Tests Results After Taking Diatomaceous Earth For 2 Months

Magnified Diatoms

Magnified Diatoms

Hi there, dear friends 😀

Last month, I wrote about the Amazing Diatomaceous Earth (DE) That Is Good For Almost Anything, and how my husband and I were going to test how DE is going to work on us. Well, after exactly 2 months ingesting DE, we had some blood work done by our family doctor…and… we got the blood tests results back today!

First, I will present my husband’s results. There are a few things he did while he was on DE :-

1) he stopped taking all herbal health teas

2) he never did any exercises

3) to really test how good DE was going to affect his cholesterol, I gave him his cholesterol and triglycerides medications (Lipitor and Fenolip-S respectively) on alternate nights, instead of daily ( we withheld this information from our doctor today).

Here are the results (in mmol/L and mg/dl)  ===>

  May 2014 Nov 2014 May 2014 Nov  2014
 Total Cholesterol 5.2 4.0 202 155
 Triglycerides 3.57  3.15  319  281
 HDL Cholesterol  0.86  0.79  33  31
 LDL Cholesterol  2.70  1.76  105  68
 Chol/HDL Ratio 6.0  5.1
 Uric Acid  0.40  0.37

Findings :-

We were very happy that despite my husband cutting down his Lipitor and Fenolip-S medication by half the dosage by taking them on alternate nights instead of daily – his lipid profile has shown marked improvements :-

Total cholesterol dropped 1.2 mmol/L or 47 points down to 4.0 or 155 from taking DE.

Bad cholesterol (LDL) dropped almost 1 mmol/L or 37 points down to 1.76 or 68 points from taking DE.

Triglycerides also went down from 3.57 mmol/L or 38 points, to 3.15 or 281 from taking DE.

That was the good news!

The bad news? My husband’s HbA1c has gone up from 7.0 to 7.7! Sigh….that’s because he never controlled his sugar nor carbohydrates intake…his favourite night time snack? Ice cream! 🙄

My husband's Nov 2014 Lipids Profile

My husband’s Nov 2014 Lipids Profile

Now…here are my results….and what I did during that two-month period on DE :-

1) I stopped all my healthy herbal teas, apple cider vinegar drinks.

2) I stopped my Lajin exercises.

3) My daily housework/exercises remained unchanged.

…..and I am NOT ON ANY MEDICATION

  May 2014 Nov 2014 May 2014 Nov  2014
 Total Cholesterol 6.3 7.3 244 283
 Triglycerides 1.68  2.38  150  212
 HDL Cholesterol  1.49  1.44  58  56
 LDL Cholesterol  4.04  4.77  157  185
 Chol/HDL Ratio 4.2  5.1

Findings? Bad news overall!

My Bilirubin level has also gone up to 25 umol/L, and it should be below 21 for the normal range….while my overall cholesterol readings have worsened!

So, how come my Lipid Profile is even worse? Is it because I was relying on an assortment of healthy drinks/teas and when I got off them to take DE, the DE couldn’t do as well a job for me compared to my husband’s case?

Some background on my cholesterol situation ===> from young, I always had persistently high cholesterol. When I was in my 20’s, my Total Cholesterol was at 5.2 mmol/L. Even when I was on health teas, you can see from my previous Total Cholesterol reading above was high at 6.3 mmol/L or 244 mg/dl. It only went down to 5.5mmol/L when I took the Wood’s Ear/Black Fungus drink daily for one month!

Another possible contributing cause to my higher cholesterol readings was because I had too many bowls of Vietnamese Noodles that had a lot of pig innards, like liver, intestines, heart, kidneys, etc, during those two months while I was on DE? I was crazy enough to push my luck too far to see how DE will fare for me…..**blush** , and oh, I don’t usually eat internal organs that much to prevent my cholesterol from escalating previously! LOL!

I spoke with my Feng Shui Master, Master atan, who is also a professional healer, about my disappointing test results – he said it is my liver that is causing my cholesterol to be higher than normal all this while, despite the healthy herbal teas I took daily. He said once I heal my liver, my cholesterol should go down and be regularised. I will post here later his natural “liver and cholesterol formulae”  once my bilirubin and cholesterol levels are back in order.

Nonetheless, I am very happy for my husband that through DE, he is able to reduce his medication somewhat :-

1) he is just on one blood pressure medication now,  compared to two before DE.

2) Lipitor and Fenolip-S dosages have been halved now – instead of daily, he takes them on alternate nights.

For his higher blood sugar readings, the doctor has prescribed additional medication to protect his kidneys – 1/2 tablet or 30 mg of Diamicron MR, daily.

For the next few months, I will be concentrating on my own health…. on improving my cholesterol and bilirubin levels, as I am due for another test for my liver in March next year.

But we will continue to take DE daily – just a heaping 1 teaspoon each morning on an empty stomach. Although I have disappointing news, I still believe in the other goodness and benefits of DE.

In summary, there were mainly improvements for my husband’s health and he was able to reduce his cholesterol medication after taking DE…and so DE worked for my husband!

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for myself … and in view of both my husband’s and my differing results, I cannot say that DE has or has not worked for us.

I hope you will weigh the pros and cons thoroughly first, before deciding if you want to try taking DE  to improve your health and maybe get off your long term medications safely. Maybe if there is more feedback here from people who are testing out DE, we may just be able to tip the scale in DE’s favour!

Good Luck!

With best wishes,

choesf 😀

P.S. I just asked my husband about his chronic right shoulder blade and upper right arm pains that he used to have frequently before taking DE. The pains can be so bad that he would not be able to sleep well in bed at night and he would be too tired to work well the following day. Even doing Lajin exercises were excruciating for him then.

Well….good news! He confirmed that up until now, since taking DE, his right shoulder blade and upper arm pains have gone completely a few weeks ago and are still gone! 😀

I am still taking DE, not on a regular daily basis but on most days. Didn’t notice any major changes so far. I think it’s too soon to tell.

      Hi, Flin 😀

Thank you for your encouraging words…hahaha, I intend to blog as long as I can. There are so many tips that I want to talk about here, just waiting for the right time and mood to write only! LOL!

I am glad that you are taking DE still…good, keep it up! **thumb up**

I heard some good feedback from Master atan just now – I don’t know how he was able to test his silica level in the body…it seemed his body silica went from 0.2 to 0.6 on Day 3 of taking 1 tablespoon of DE. He is now taking DE twice a week only because he is on other herbal medication.

      Good Night from KL!

P.S. I forgot to mention that Andreas Moritz, an advocate of the Liver Cleanse/Gallbladder Flush, recommended that blood tests should not be done less than 6 months after completion of a Gallbladder Flush, because the flush would have release toxins into the body.

I had done a Gallbladder Flush on 16 September, 2014 and I am not sure if that had any effect on the results of my blood tests 🙄

        Hi there, Bo 😀

Thank you for sharing your experience and your tip. Yes, I, too, thought that it could be my gallbladder flush that threw my blood test results off. I will be sure to take activated charcoal and DE at the same time of the flush.

Sad to hear that your experiment with DE is not conclusive. It seem that DE is unable to suppress Cholesterol from your food intake. I have been on DE for a month now and will now stop ingesting it. Won’t be missing it as it taste awful.
Earlier I was on statin( Zocor, Lipitor) which had the side effects of excruciating muscle pain on both legs. I have stop taking it now, but am taking a mug of Oat drink every morning.I am experimenting to check whether Oat can suppress my cholesterol or not. Been on it for a month now. Hope it works.
    Take care.

      Hi, Penglam 😀

I’m glad to see you here. Yes, DE’s chalky taste can be quite awful – my husband still makes a face every time he drinks it! 🙄

The oat you are taking now in place of your cholesterol/statin meds – is it oat bran? Do let me know if it works for you to lower your cholesterol without the help of meds. Quite some time back, my husband stopped taking his statins to try out the Black Fungus Remedy for one month – unfortunately, his cholesterol and triglycerides went off the charts (I think the readings were over 10 mmol/L?)!! It was scary…so, I hope you will do a cholesterol check after one month of trying out the oats. 💡

For me, starting today, I have embarked on a change of diet, whereby I am cutting out as much meats as I can, cut out fried and oily stuff, and at the same time, drink more Chinese tea like Puer and Green Tea to help cut the fats from my food intake. I have also started again the Woods Ear/Black Fungus Remedy…as the last time I tested this remedy, my cholesterol dropped almost 1 point in just a month.

Tomorrow, I will go to the plant nursery and the Chinese medicine shop to put together the herbs that is good for healing liver. 💡

Good Luck with your oat drink!

      With best wishes,

        Hi Choe,

Actually our body needs chloesterol. Have a look at this article by Dr Mercola:-

        http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/08/10/making-sense-of-your-cholesterol-numbers.aspx

I decided to stop taking statin after reading this article by Dr Mercola.

The oat that I am taking every morning is the instant oat that you get from the supermarket. I use a mug of hot water with 5 table spoon of the instant oat. I will be see my doctor in Feb next year and plan to have my blood test before that. That will give the oatdrink more time to work on me.

One more thing, I observed that regular exercise (3 times a week) on my treadmill helps to lower my chloresterol and blood pressure.

        Take care.

        Good afternoon, Penglam 😀

Thank you for your link to Dr. Mercola’s article on interpreting our cholesterol numbers – that article was really an eye opener for me! 😯

I calculated my cholesterol numbers based on his take on the two more important ratios that we should look at, i.e. the HDL/Cholesterol ratio (should ideally be above 24 percent) and the Triglyceride/HDL ratio (should be below 2) … and I got 20% and 1.65 respectively. Taking that interpretation into consideration, my Lipid Profile results are not so scary after all. Phew! No wonder you decided to stop taking your statins. 😉

Nonetheless, I still need to work on my Total Cholesterol level to bring it down. I have changed my diet and will improve my cardio exercises – now that my knee joints are alright from Lajin and taking DE, I can go back to doing more cardio exercises! You are right, exercises can bring down cholesterol and blood pressure indeed! My daughter’s fiance is was only 27 when he found out his cholesterol was quite high at 5.4. He joined the gym and worked out only once a week and one year later, his cholesterol was significantly lowered to 4.2.

Yes, I have heard of people whose cholesterol came down from eating a rice bowl of oats daily. A friend took 2 tablespoons of oat bran with warm water half an hour before dinner for 4 months and her cholesterol dropped from 6 to 5.3 in 3 months. However, her HDL also dropped slightly and she decided to just stay with a higher Total Cholesterol number and keep her HDL Good Cholesterol raised.

Good Luck with your Feb 2015 blood test!

        With best wishes,

        choesf 😀

        Dear Choe,

Yes, there are many reports on the goodness of oats to control cholesterol level. For example http://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/features/the-new-cholesterol-diet-oatmeal-oat-bran

Roll oat is good but you have to cook it. So I use insatnt oatmeal for convenient.

My wife and I joined Fitness First gym for about 2 years. The monthly subscription for 2 was quite expensive. So I bought a treadmill during one of the Christmas sales with 50% discount from Johnson. The tradmill came preprogrammed with “High Intensity Interval Training” ot HIIT. HIIT is where you will run very fast for 30 sec follow by 90 sec walk. You do this 8 times in each HIIT session. Have a look at Dr Mercola article on this http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2014/07/12/high-intensity-workouts.aspx

Besides this I also do 4km/hr walk on the treadmill for an hour. I really feel good after the exercise.

In exercise, you will burn the sugar in your blood during the first 20 minutes and after that the energy will have to come from your fat. Then your sweat will reduce the salt in your body. I believe the end result is some lowering of your sugar, cholesterol and blood pressure.

I hope I able to encourage you to do some exercises.

        Take care.

        Hi, Penglam 😀

Thank you for your encouragement for me to do some exercises. Wow, you and your wife are quite fit to be able to do HIIT. Hehe…I do exercise by following a range of Jessica Smith’s Youtube videos :-

I have been “nagging” my husband to buy a treadmill for quite some time but he is reluctant to get one out of fear it will be a “white elephant” … plus we don’t have much space to spare for a treadmill or cross trainer, etc. 😳

        Penglam Wong said,

        Dear Choe,

Trust me, the HIIT is easier than the Jessica Smith exercise. I do it by running at 6km/hr for 30 sec and walk at 3km/hr for 90 sec. I do this 8 times. For a very fit person, the 30sec run is at least 10km/hr.

Just like your husband, I also thought my treadmill would be a “white elephant”. I bought it because it was a bargain during the Chrismas sales and it was also to save on the monthly gym subscriptions.

Now I use it regularly because my heart and circulation feels good after each exercise. If I don’t run on the treadmill for a week, my heart does not feel good. I passed my recent stress test because of the exercises on the treadmill.

As for you, keep up with the Jessica exercise. I am sure you feel good after each exercise.

        Take care.

    Sam said,

    Hi
Allow me to make some comments on yr blood test results.

    1. Since you already have high cholesterol at a young age, I suspect you are genetically predisposed to have high cholesterol. I have met two friends who do have the same problem.

    2. Do not be unduly concerned about high cholesterol levels despite what the doctors say. The total cholesterol/HDL ratio is a better indication. Serious researchers have cast doubt whether cholesterol is a problem leading to CHD (coronary heart disease) and pinpoint inflammation and high sugar intake are more serious risk factors.

    3. Cholesterol is a natural substance produced by the liver. The amount of cholesterol produced by the liver is far more than that consumed through diet consumption. The liver produced cholesterol in response to body needs, such as cell rejuvenation, brain functions, producing vitamin D from sunlight, and other requirements. The older you are, means the liver will produce more cholesterol in response to your body needs. So, who is there to suggest that there is a limit to cholesterol level for individual need?

    4. Yes, genetics and impaired liver will affect cholesterol production. One has to work out and find a level in which he/she can be comfortable with, considering his/her diet/exercise lifestyle.

    5. You are a good researcher of healthy lifestyle. Hence, I am sure you will do serious research on cholesterol and find a solution.

    6. I have previously posted that I had tried DE for 9 days, and have stopped the trial, because I am uncomfortable in relation to increased blood pressure. I am also uncomfortable with regards to lack of scientific research, and the long term effects of the consumption of DE. I have decided to put DE on hold, as I will be testing black cumin seed oil next week. From my research, the effects of the consumption of black cumin seed/oil ( Nigella sativa) is as good as DE, and there are serious scientific studies done on the subject. Please do some serious research and see whether you want to incorporate it into your healthcare regime.

      Hi, Sam 😀

I’m glad to see you, too! Thank you so much for your input and information on cholesterol here – ah, so there is really such a thing that a person may be inclined to have higher cholesterol levels than others – I was guessing that I may be that! Phew!

I will be sure to look seriously into the health benefits of black cumin seed/oil – that is something I have not heard of before and it sounds really fascinating! Where can we buy black cumin seed from?

Right now, I am still planning my new healthcare regime to lower my cholesterol levels from the present 7.3 mmol/L as I certainly don’t want my doctor to put me on any statin drugs.

Take care and good luck with your findings on black cumin seeds!

I did my blood test about 3 weeks ago in anticipation of testing the DE, and there were some issues with regards to cholesterol and liver enzymes profile. Update 💡 –

I found some interesting information regarding the correlation between weightloss and LDL cholesterol increase. Since I started DE, I lost about 2 kgs and I have leaner body mass, and flab/fat diminishing. I had also started “Oil Pulling” Virgin Coconut Oil in the past few weeks ===>

    Source :- http://curezone.com/forums/am.asp?i=772083

“…According to the most recent research, VCO should not affect your total cholesterol count in a negative way. One thing I want to point out, though, is if you are losing weight (and people do lose weight using VCO) your *lipid profile* will change WHILE you are burning fat, so that you have more LDL. That’s because the stored fat is moving from the fat cells through your bloodstream to where your body can burn it, and the LDL is the fat transporting system of your blood. So if your weight is going down, DON’T WORRY about your HDL/LDL ratios. They will be temporarily skewed so they look bad with a one-time blood test, but overall you are getting healthier and doing the best thing for your body. When your weight stabilizes again, your HDL/LDL should look better than ever…”

    Hmmm…some food for thought …

I don’t want my hair thinning!! By simple gestures as running my hand thru hair with any force, at least I will have around 3/4 strands. Combing or shampooing r the worst……like horror movies…..

But me still taking DE….. coz hoping now is a temporarily situation.

        Hi there, Polly 😀

Thank you for sharing your experience with taking DE. OMG, that is a scary effect from DE! I am not a DE expert, but I think the hair loss could be a die-off effect, known as a “Herxheimer’s reaction” …or a healing crisis.

I didn’t experience any sudden hair loss at the beginning of taking DE and my hair has grown stronger and more now. I drop fewer strands of hair nowadays – probably around 15 at most?

Try using organic shampoo or take a health supplement for strengthening hair growth since you are experiencing sudden hair loss. I am quite sure it is a temporary situation.

Take care and hope you will hair great hair growth in replacement asap!

        With best wishes,

      Hi there, Esther

I am sorry to hear about your parents and relatives passing away from diabetes 😦 . I am not sure how DE can help with your diabetes, but try buying it online? Hope you find some to try soon!

With best wishes for good health,

Thank you, our currency is in Rands(SA),I realised almost all online products are sold in US dollars. Since the exchange rate differs so greatly, how do I purchase an online product?

        Hi there, Esther 😀

Yes, I love DE, too as it has given me a lot of health benefits so far – my favourite benefits are no more joint pains and my white hair has gone darker and fuller. You can do a search in the Internet to see where is the cheapest place to buy your DE and you can use your credit card to make online purchases.

        Good Luck!

Thanks so much for your blog, it is very helpful. Just a brief background of myself, I am a vegan of 7 years almost and I am a striving alkaline eater. I started taking DE in hopes of clearing out any and all parasites that i may have. It has been just about 3 weeks of taking DE, starting with a tspn in the morning on an empty stomach and gradually increasing it. I am now at 3 tbsp a Day and what I have noticed is a great increase in energy and the insomnia I suffered from for years has just about dissipated. I also don’t feel the urge to nap midday.

As I have not seen any visible parasites yet, I am totally looking forward to more positive results. DE has proved to be an asset to my daily health regimen. Thanks so much

      Hi there, Lisa 😀

Thank you for sharing your experience on taking DE for its health benefits – I am so glad that you also feel that DE has given you more energy and best of all, your insomnia is gone! I, too, didn’t notice any parasites, but whenever I eat sushi or sashimi (Japanese raw fish meals), I will be sure to take DE after that to kill off any possible parasites.

It helps also to take some pre- and probiotics to improve our gut flora when taking DE.

      Take care and stay healthy!

      With best wishes,

If this was already said I apologize I don’t have time to read through all this. I just wonder if it wasn’t so much all the pig innards as it was all the noodles. Any carb that increases insulin can increase cholesterol.

My doctor explained to me, in hopes of convincing me to try statins again (the first two medications I tried had me waking up temporarily paralyzed where all I could move was my eyes for about a 1/2 hour so I refuse to take anymore) that statin drugs don’t actually remove cholesterol, what they do is coat your arteries to keep the plaque in place. With this coating on your artery walls nothing can break free but your arteries never get cleaned out and are still narrower than before. The only reason the cholesterol level goes down is because the rest is coated and not registering. I was so surprised that my doctor thought this was a good thing. It only affirmed my resolve to never take it again.

As for the liver and gallbladder you can do a cleanse to help clear them out. I’ve already removed over 7,000 stones and that’s only counting the medium 1/4″ to extremely large ones over 2″. This saved me from having my gallbladder removed because they wanted me to have immediate surgery based on my ultra sound. I kept cleansing and months later when they did the MRI it was no longer critical, and then I kept cleansing. Stone Free is great with cleaning your liver and gallbladder if you have lesser symptoms. Although, after numerous cleanses, if only tiny ones were coming out and I felt like something was stuck I would take the Stone Free for a few weeks, do another cleanse and then some very old looking broken down calcified gallstones came out.

To do this Liver Gallbladder Flush you have to drink a lot of apple juice the week before or if you can’t handle all that sugar you can use a malic acid supplement (malic acid is in apples) to soften the stones for easier removal. Look for the liver gallbladder flush by Hulda Clark or Andrew Moritz for more details.

      Hi there, Karen 😀

Thank you so much for all the information and the Liver Gallbladder Flush details. They are very helpful indeed. I didn’t know that carbs can increase cholesterol as well. I have done the gallbladder flush around 8 times already for the past few years, but my husband doesn’t want to do it…he cannot accept that he can’t take dinner on Day 6. Lol!

With best wishes for good health,

      choesf 😀
